Converting Magnetic Media Tapes into CD’s & DVD's

Because magnetic media deteriorates with time, the content of such magnetic media can be partially or totally lost.  Moreover, maintaining any magnetic media is very costly, since it requires special conditions for storage that include air conditioning as well as dehumidifying.  These special conditions lead to the need for large storage facilities to store the tapes in.  For this reason, we found that transferring the data of the 9 track tapes onto Compact Discs was the most appropriate solution in replacing the magnetic media.  Such a Compact Disc may be easily reproduced and distributed to all petrophysicists involved in a project.  If missing or corrupt data from the tapes exist, they may be corrected by digitizing the corresponding hard copies
